DAAD Alumni Conference on 20/21 March 2010

The weekend of 20/21 March 2010 has been confirmed for the DAAD Alumni Conference, which will take place in the Fale Pasifika at the University of Auckland.

The conference, to which all DAAD alumni in New Zealand are invited, will start around noon with a lunch buffet and end on the second day with afternoon tea. It will examine “The role of the University in our globalized world” from different perspectives, i.e. science and sustainability, the role of science in the knowledge economy, and the scientific, technological and academic exchange between New Zealand and Germany.

We are happy to report that the Ambassador Designate of the Federal Republic of Germany in New Zealand, Mr. Thomas Meister, hopes to attend this conference; the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Auckland, Professor Stuart McCutcheon, and other representatives from New Zealand universities and institutions, have already confirmed their participation.

We are also delighted to let you know that DAAD Secretary-General, Dr. Christian Bode, and the Head of Section in charge of academic exchange with New Zealand, Dr. Ursula Toyka, will join this conference from the DAAD headquarters in Bonn. Prof. Dr. Martin Faulstich, Professor of Resource and Energy Technology at the TU Munich and Chairman of the German Advisory Council on the Environment, will speak in the session on Science and Sustainability on the afternoon of the first day and Dr. Hermann Scheer, Member of Parliament, Chairman of the World Council For Renewable Energy (WCRE), has also been invited to speak at this session.

A draft programme of the meeting is available below.

Do not hesitate to contact the DAAD Office at the University of Auckland for further information (daad@auckland.ac.nz). If you are unsure as to whether we have your current email address, please let me know. Also, if you are in touch with fellow DAAD alumni in New Zealand who did not receive any information about the conference, please do not hesitate to forward this message to them.
